California Proposition 65

California’s Proposition 65 (Prop 65), officially known as the Safe Drinking Water & Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986 (https://oehha.ca.gov/proposition-65) contains a list of chemicals and exposure thresholds which the State of California has determined present a risk of cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm. For goods sold to end users in California, Proposition 65 must be respected.

Mr. Cool supplies heat exchangers and oil coolers made of copper and brass, and brass is primarily made of copper with tin and zinc alloys.    Our Braze material is made of much the same materials as brass and the braze flux we use is water soluble and is removed in processing.   In regard to raw materials, in many cases we are using the type of copper that could carry drinking water so clearly the exposure is quite low.   However, In copper there are trace amounts of lead and other chemicals listed below and we want to make sure that our customers are aware of the mechanically and statistically unlikely potential that any hazardous exposure could occur.

Nevertheless, out of an abundance of caution we are making this statement as a precautionary and informative measure.  Copper is unsafe when ingested/taken in larger amounts.   Symptoms of copper overdose include nausea, vomiting, bloody diarrhea, fever, stomach pain, low blood pressure, anemia, and heart problems.

It’s best not to eat your heat exchanger.   In regard to the other trace metals you would again have to ingest or aggressively lick the heat exchanger which one would find to be difficult and unsavory.

There is no significant opportunity for exposure or release under normal usage.
