Proposition 65 Warning

WARNING: This product is made from brass, copper, and zinc, which may contain trace amounts of lead, a chemical known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm. While the risk of exposure is extremely low under normal usage conditions, we provide this warning as a precautionary measure.

Copper contains trace amounts of chemicals such as lead. This is true regardless of the mine, refinery, fabricator, manufacturer, and distributor they come from. Proposition 65 requires a warning on any product that contains even the tiniest amount of a chemical that can cause cancer or reproductive harm in laboratory animals at high doses. Like many other companies, we place Proposition 65 warnings on all shipments to California in order to help fend off frivolous lawsuits.

Please wash your hands after handling this product.

Remember, while the likelihood of exposure might be low, it's always important to follow good safety practices.

Q: Why do you have this warning on your products?

A: Proposition 65 is a California regulation that requires businesses to provide warnings to Californians about potential exposure to chemicals that cause cancer or reproductive harm. California publishes a list of chemicals that are of concern, and the full list can be found at www.oehha.ca.gov/proposition-65/proposition-65-list. Mr. Cool regularly reviews the chemical list to determine if any of the substances might be present in our products.
The levels of listed chemicals that can trigger warnings under Proposition 65 can be very low–often much lower than other applicable regulations require. Based on our supply chain and product mix, it’s not possible to state that all of our products provide no exposure under any circumstances to any of the most recently published list of chemicals. The copper used in heat exchanger and cable may have trace amounts of lead, nickel and other metals that are on the list. These substances are not intentionally added to the copper, but they can be present in very small amounts. The compounds used on our heat exchangers and oil coolers may also contain small amounts of other chemicals on the list, such as carbon black, that are necessary to comply with product safety standards. Since our products are frequently shipped to California, we add the warning language to our packaging.

A Prop 65 warning does not mean a product is in violation of any product safety standards or requirements. Our products are not harmful when used as intended, and we provide the warning out of an abundance of caution in order to comply with this California regulation.
